Paschal and Lenten Cycle
In the Orthodox Church, Easter—the celebration of Christ’s Resurrection from the dead—is known as Pascha (Passover). It is often a different date than Western Easter, but there are times where the two line up (see 2025 in the table below). Pascha/Easter is preceded by two periods of fasting, Lent and Holy Week. Lent itself is preceded by five Sundays of increasing penitential themes.
Our Pascha/Easter Service begins around 11:30pm the day before Pascha (Saturday), and goes until about 2am on Sunday Morning. After we celebrate the Divine Liturgy, we celebrate with a festal banquet that can go until 4 or 5am!
