The St. Nicholas community traces its origins to the change in the millennium when services were held during Tulip Time. With surprisingly strong participation, we realized that more was needed in Pella. In 2002, pastors came from the Twin Cities on a monthly basis. In 2003, we were able to have services just about every Sunday. Then, in June 2004, our first permanent pastor, Fr. Bartholomew Wojcik arrived with his wife and son and we now have a regular schedule of services.
A Morning Prayer (for spiritual strength)
attributed to St. Philaret of Moscow
O Lord, grant me to greet the coming day in peace. Help in all things to rely upon Your holy will. In every hour of the day, reveal Your will to me, bless my dealings with all who surround, teach me to treat all that comes to me throughout the day with peace of soul and firm conviction that Your will governs all. In all my deeds and works, guide my thoughts and feelings. In unforeseen events, let me not forget that all are sent by You. Teach me to act firmly and wisely without embittering or embarrassing others, give me strength to bear the fatigue of the coming day with all that it shall bring. Direct my will, teach me to pray, You Yourself pray in me. Amen.
